The Confederation of Norwegian Business and Industry, known by its Norwegian initials, NHO, is the main organisation for Norwegian employers in manufacturing industries, services and crafts. Membership consists of more than 16 000 enterprises ranging from small family-owned businesses to large industrial enterprises.
How we work
The organisational structure of NHO is divided in three. In addition to the central organisation in Oslo, NHO members belong to one of 23 nation-wide sectoral federations and one of 17 regional associations. NHO's central organisation has cross-sectoral responsibility for members' interests. The sectoral federations look after branch-related interests, while the regional associations offer a local point of contact between companies and authorities.
Through their elected representatives, the member companies determine NHO's policies and priorities. The Central Board, with 88 representatives, meets at least twice a year. Once a year the Central Board members form the Annual Meeting of NHO. A fourteen-member Executive Board chaired by NHO's president, makes decisions on policy issues with delegated authority from the Central Board. NHO's Director General is responsible for NHO's day-to-day operations, including implementing decisions taken by the governing bodies.
What we do
NHO's activities cover three main areas:
1. Promoting legislation and industrial policies that are conducive to a prosperous business climate and ensuring that framework conditions for business and industry are consistent with this goal.
2. Representing employers in collective bargaining.
3. Advising member companies on a wide range of issues. Long-term goals include promoting the competitiveness, profitability and increased internationalisation of Norwegian companies.
A main task for NHO is thus to promote the interests of Norwegian companies as regards to exports and internationalisation. NHO has an office in Brussels to provide information on EU matters relevant for the business community. |
